About

Built by the people who built the first generative AI for mental health.

Wellington is made by Therabot Labs, founded by a psychologist and a psychiatrist who together built and tested the first generative AI therapy system, and then asked what a personality assessment would look like if it were held to the same standard.

The founders

Portrait of Nicholas C. Jacobson

Nicholas C. Jacobson, PhD

Co-founder. Psychologist.

Nick is a world-renowned psychologist whose work sits where personality science, measurement and technology meet. He has published more than 150 peer-reviewed articles in the field's leading journals on how personality and mood change over time, how to measure them faithfully, and how technology can help people at scale. His research is cited across psychology, psychiatry and computer science.

At Wellington, Nick is responsible for the science: making sure every trait is measured properly and that everything your report tells you is genuinely supported by research. If your report says something about you, it is because the evidence stands behind it.

Portrait of Michael Heinz

Michael Heinz, MD

Co-founder. Psychiatrist.

Michael is a psychiatrist and researcher who has spent his career on a single question: how real understanding can reach people who would otherwise never find it. He treats patients, teaches, and led the first randomized trial of a generative AI built for mental health.

At Wellington, Michael cares about one thing above all: that your report feels true. Not just accurate, but recognizable, the kind of writing that makes you stop and think, that is exactly me. He holds every trait to that standard, so nothing you read is generic and nothing is hollow. And when something in your life is hard, he makes sure Wellington meets you with real warmth and points you to people who can help.

Together they built and ran the first generative AI system for mental health and led the first randomized controlled trial of a generative AI therapy chatbot, published in 2025. Wellington is what they made next.

Why we built Wellington

We spent years building a system that talks with people about the hardest things in their lives, and testing it the way medicine is tested. Along the way we kept meeting the same gap. People wanted to understand themselves, accurately, before anything was wrong, and what they were offered was a quiz that sorted them into a type, or a clinical instrument locked behind a licence and a practitioner’s fee. The first is entertaining and mostly wrong. The second is accurate and mostly inaccessible.

Wellington is the third thing. It measures 255 traits across eight domains, grounded in the framework personality science trusts most, and writes each one up in a report that describes rather than judges. You can see how it works on the Science page.

How the science gets into the product

Every trait is written for three levels, each one crafted to a strict brief by our writing and psychology team, checked for tone and cross-references, and kept entirely free of clinical language. Your bands come from placing your answers against a broad adult reference. Where the research supports something, we lean on it; where it is thin, we do not overreach.

What we mean by wellness

Wellington is not a diagnostic tool, and we go to some lengths to keep it from sounding like one. There is no pathology language in the report. A Quiet band is a way of being with its own gifts and costs, not a deficiency. The growth edges are invitations, sized to fit inside an ordinary week, and the practices are small on purpose because small, repeated and specific is what the intervention literature says actually moves a trait.

Our commitments

  • No diagnosis, ever. If something you see worries you, we say so and point you to a professional.
  • You are in control of your data. Export it or delete it in one click, any time.
  • Plain language: every claim is checkable and every price is stated in full before you pay.
  • Cancel the Year in one click. Access runs to the end of the paid period.

See how it works, or just take it.

Seven minutes, your personality card and five dimensions, no payment needed.

One trait a week

Not ready to take the test? Read one trait a week.

A real page from the report, one practice attached, every week. It is the easiest way to see whether Wellington reads people the way you think it should.
