The assessment

8 questions

How accurate is it?
As accurate as a careful personality assessment can be. It rests on the most thoroughly tested framework in personality psychology, measures every trait with several questions, and places your answers against a broad adult reference — so your results reflect real, stable differences rather than a mood or a guess. You can read more on the Science page, in how accurate personality tests are, and in how a score is made.
How long does it take?
The free assessment is 60 items and takes about 7 minutes. The Portrait, which the membership draws on, is 336 items in four chapters and takes about 36 minutes in total; you can take the chapters on different days. Weekly modules in the membership take three to four minutes each. For how this compares with other instruments, see how long a personality test takes.
How is this different from MBTI or 16Personalities?
Type tests sort you into one of a small number of boxes. Wellington measures 255 continuous traits and tells you where you sit on each relative to other adults. The trait approach is the one personality science has converged on, because people do not fall into types: on almost every dimension, most people are in the middle. A type label is memorable. A trait profile is true of you in a way you can check against your own life, and it can change as you do. We have written fair, cited comparisons with 16Personalities, the MBTI and the Enneagram.
How is it different from a free Big Five test?
A good free Big Five test measures five domains. Our free assessment measures six, and if you stop there you have lost nothing. The difference begins underneath the domains: the Wellington Membership measures all 255 traits, including every NEO facet and all 24 VIA character strengths, covering emotional life, relationships, stress, meaning, daily habits and sense of self. The other difference is the writing. Each trait has a full card for each band, written by people and edited against the studies it cites, rather than a paragraph of generic description.
Is it therapy, or a diagnosis?
No. Wellington is a wellness tool for reflection. It measures ordinary variation in personality and habits and describes it in plain language. It does not screen for, detect or rule out any condition, and it is not a substitute for a psychologist, physician or therapist. If something in your results worries you, take it to a qualified professional.
Can I retake it?
Yes. You can retake the free assessment from your dashboard whenever you like; the newest completed sitting drives your report, and older ones are kept so you can compare. The Portrait is retaken as part of the re-take your membership includes over the year, or on request if you believe the first sitting did not represent you. Retakes are always fresh sittings; you cannot edit old answers.
What if I disagree with a result?
Read the page for the neighbouring band — scores near a boundary can go either way, and yours may sit close. If a page is plainly not you, tell us, and if it feels like you rushed, a quick retake usually sets it right.
Who wrote the reports?
People. Every one of the 765 trait pages (one per trait, at each of three levels) was written in advance by our writing and psychology team, grounded in the research and read aloud for tone. Your answers simply choose which pages you read; the report then adds sections built from your own pattern, such as your domain overviews and strengths constellation.

Money

4 questions

What does it cost?
The free assessment needs only an email address. Unlocking your eight written chapters is a one-time $0.99, the Portrait Report. Wellington Membership: $4.99 a month, cancel any time, 30-day money-back guarantee, and it includes everything in the Portrait Report and much more. Prices are in US dollars.
What if I am not satisfied with a purchase?
Every paid tier is covered by a 30-day money-back guarantee. If it is not right, write to [email protected] and you get a full refund, no questions asked. Details on the purchases page.
How do I cancel my membership?
From your dashboard under Membership. No call is required. Access continues to the end of the month you have paid for, then the subscription does not renew. Downloaded PDFs remain yours. A separately purchased Portrait Report is yours to keep.
If I buy the Portrait Report first, can I still join membership later?
Yes. Your Portrait Report is yours to keep, and everything you have answered carries straight over so you answer nothing twice. Membership is $4.99 a month, cancel any time, 30-day money-back guarantee, and it includes everything in the Portrait Report and much more.

Privacy and your data

4 questions

What do you do with my answers?
We use them to score your traits and build your report, and, in aggregate and de-identified form, to keep improving the assessment for everyone. You can export or delete everything from your dashboard whenever you like. The full statement is the privacy policy.
Why do you need my email when I finish the Snapshot?
So your answers have somewhere to live. Before you request a sign-in link, your unsaved answers stay in your browser. The verification link carries your draft, even if you open it on another device. Once you sign in, everything autosaves to your account. Sign-in is required to see your results; marketing email preferences are separate.
How do I delete my data?
Go to Delete my data, or write to [email protected]. Deletion removes your account, every answer, every score and every report immediately, and it cannot be undone. Payment records that we are legally required to keep are retained by our payment processor for the statutory period, without your answers.
Is my report private?
Yes. Your report is visible only when you are signed in, through a passwordless link sent to your email. There are no public profile pages and no sharing by default. If you want to show someone your report, download the PDF and send it yourself.

Practicalities

2 questions

Do I need an app?
No. Wellington runs in any modern browser on a phone, tablet or computer, and your progress follows you between them. Emails link straight back to where you were.
What happens if I miss a weekly module?
It waits. The module sits on your dashboard until you finish it, and the next one is not sent until you do. Membership spans 104 modules, counted by modules completed rather than by calendar weeks, so a busy month costs you nothing.
